This workshop explores the relationship of regular mindfulness and awareness practice to the arising of moments of great insight and wonder, in particular developing the theme of gratitude as a path in itself.
We consider the context for gratitude in our personal and collective lives, as well as obstacles to experiencing gratefulness, such as fear, anxiety and suffering; we consider poetic reflections upon the value of gratitude as it connects us to wonder and awe, ‘the emotions of transcendence’ as they have been called (Jonathan Haidt) as well as the neuropsychology of the human body-mind
The workshop includes several practices and reflective exercises, meditating on the ‘shining forth’ of the true nature of things, as perceived by our unconditioned mind. These practices are designed to offer a method for integrating our insights with our regular life, and cultivating habits that support further, deeper experiences of awe and epiphany.
In this manner we approach the interconnection of vision and mystery with the rhythms of everyday life and experience, bridging the gap that the mind of duality often presumes to be present.
